We met with the ENT a few days later and he took one peak in his mouth and thought removing the tonsils was the best idea due to the symptoms we explained and the size of the tonsils. He said taking the adenoids would be good too since he would already be under. The ENT also said this would clear his airway so much that he will be a new kiddo in no time. It's the healing process that will be the worst. We had a couple dates to choose from since it was the end of the year we wanted to get them out before 2014. It was the 23rd or the 27th. We decided to go with the 27th and not ruin the little man's Christmas.
The night before was pretty terrifying for Jeff and I. We decided to get rid of Jase and Hayden since we had to be at the surgery center by 6:15. We tried to explain to Tyce the night before what was going on, but he is just too little to fully understand. Although, the next day he knew where we were headed and DID NOT want to go. The staff was absolutely amazing and even put a little identification on his bear, Roger. We were able to spend about 30 minutes with him pre-op while the doctor, nurses and anesthesiologist talked to us. We had a great time with him until it was time to let go. It was the hardest thing I had to do with him. When the nurse came to get him, he had the saddest face and wouldn't let go of Jeff's shirt. I will never forget the face he made. I felt so bad for him and so helpless. I hate making my kids feel sad.
The procedure took about 30 minutes is all. Jeff and I barely got settled in the waiting room and they called us back to talk to us. Everything went smoothly and he was in recovery. We were able to see him a few minutes later and he was no pleased. They said they had to wrap him up because he was like Houdini. I thought to myself, that's my Tycer. He was able to drink some water in recovery and a hour later, we were on our way home.
Tyce had a rough night the first night, but last night was better and today has been even better. He seems to be bouncing back to his old self in no time, but the doctors say the days 3-5 are the worst so it is a waiting game from here on out until next weekend. He is loving the attention and all the Popsicles (which happens to be a few boxes already). Getting him to take his pain meds is another story, but we are getting there. It's ironic that the pharmacists' son doesn't take medicine well.
